There are so many crazy things going on this year it’s hard to keep track. We got married, Matt graduated & has a job in the military, I am unemployed for the first time, and craziest of all- we’re moving to Germany. Growing up with a large family all within walking distance can be pretty daunting at times, but I wouldn’t trade them for the world. We all live in Dublin, and we all grew up here. Three generations separated by only two stop signs & a few signal lights, until the middle of this year.
While I might be the first grandchild to really leave, Matt and I are not the only to move. A couple months back, my aunt Pam moved away. It was heart-wrenching to see their house get packed up, and even worse knowing that they are living states away. Recently, I’ve been able to connect Pam more than ever through our experiences. This is opportunity of a lifetime, but I’m still terrified. All I have ever known is California and the bay area.
Luckily, I married the most supportive person I know. Matt keeps me sane by constantly reminding me how wonderful this chapter of our life can be. Germany is at our disposal, and we should take it while we can. Now, only being 22, we have time to travel, see things we’ve never seen, totally immerse ourselves in another culture, and finally spend some real time together. While we still don’t know what to expect, we always have each other, and I’m both thankful and blessed for that very reason.
